History of St. George Bank

St. George bank started in the late 1840's when the savings bank of South Australia and the State Bank of South Australia merged and operated as one firm.

In 1955 at the Annual General Meeting of the St. George And Cronulla societies the said association was proclaimed a Permanent Building Society.

In 1970 the "Happy Dragon" the icon of the Society was launched.

St. George Bank was the first Building Society to efficiently use computer to complete its transactions. In addition, the society was the first to introduce the black light signature system enabling its clients to do their banking in any of its branches.
